Modern Cabinets 2022
Part of my client’s space planning for his new Pied-A-Terre included a bar area with a TV. The budget for the cabinet was $1200 and under, and it was also a priority to have it within 1 month. The first one I found attractive and went with the color scheme and was very affordable was this one from Target. Priced around $300.
I really liked the curved sides, and the woven cane. The black color gave it a sophisticated look, as well as the slim minimalist hardware. However, when I took it out of the packaging, it was damaged. One of the doors was split on the wood. I asked my client if he wanted to keep it. and repair, or just get a different one. He suggested we keep it since it was a minor damage. After it was assembled, the doors didn't close properly because of the way they fit. We decided to return it.
The next cabinet I fell in love with for the space was from CB2. It has so much character and proper bar storage behind the doors. This one was around $900. However the lead time was looking to be around March. Since this is a rental unit, we decided to look for a different style that would arrive at an earlier date. Until next time, CB2. xo
The cabinet had to be base cabinet height to accommodate space for the wall-mounted TV above. It also would be best with the overall look if it had a contrasting finish that the kitchen cabinets beside it.
Here are some others that didn’t make the cut for various reasons, but were still at the preferred budget. Left to right: Modway, Burke Decor, Crate & Barrel.
The cabinet we ended up ordering is called the Cullen Bar cabinet by George Oliver. It was on sale for about $250. It arrived within a few days. I upgraded it a little by swapping out the black legs for brass ones in a non-midcentury style. This one has more display available since it has the glass doors.
